{"id":1975,"date":"2011-03-16T16:18:31","date_gmt":"2011-03-16T20:18:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wilktone.com\/?p=1975"},"modified":"2023-03-27T10:49:58","modified_gmt":"2023-03-27T14:49:58","slug":"guess-the-embouchure-type-cat-anderson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilktone.com\/?p=1975","title":{"rendered":"Guess the Embouchure Type &#8211; Cat Anderson"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve been looking for some video footage of Cat Anderson that shows a good look at his embouchure for a long time. \u00a0I&#8217;ve found one that&#8217;s pretty good, but unfortunately it doesn&#8217;t show him changing register enough to get a good look at his <a href=\"http:\/\/wilktone.com\/?p=41\">embouchure motion<\/a>. \u00a0Still, if you know what to look for you might be able to make a pretty good guess as to what <a href=\"https:\/\/wilktone.com\/?p=7337\">embouchure type<\/a> Cat Anderson belonged to. \u00a0Take a look and see what you think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"656\" height=\"369\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0a-XWdNDEE8?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The best look at his chops happens around 1:13 into the video, and he&#8217;s even playing on a plastic transparent mouthpiece (although we really don&#8217;t get a great look at his lips inside). \u00a0Even with his mustache making it a little hard to see his ratio of upper to lower lip, it looks like Anderson has much more lower lip inside the cup. \u00a0My best guess is he&#8217;s a Low Placement embouchure type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve heard that Donald Reinhardt typed Cat Anderson, although I don&#8217;t know if he got to look at him up close and in person or if he just watched carefully from a distance. &nbsp;Rumor has it that Anderson belonged to a very rare variation of the upstream embouchure performer, one who&#8217;s embouchure motion is the reverse of the vast majority of Low Placement types. &nbsp;Instead of pulling his lips and mouthpiece down to ascend, Anderson supposedly pushed up. &nbsp;This is the same embouchure motion that the Very High Placement embouchure type uses, but Anderson doesn&#8217;t look at all like that embouchure type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Can you see his embouchure motion in the video?
