{"id":995,"date":"2010-08-24T06:00:51","date_gmt":"2010-08-24T10:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wilktone.com\/?p=995"},"modified":"2023-03-27T09:12:23","modified_gmt":"2023-03-27T13:12:23","slug":"guess-the-embouchure-type-hornist-nury-guarnaschelli","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilktone.com\/?p=995","title":{"rendered":"Guess the Embouchure Type \u2013 Hornist Nury Guarnaschelli"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s time for another installment of &#8220;Guess the Embouchure Type.&#8221; &nbsp;Today, I&#8217;m going to try to guess the embouchure type of German hornist Nury Guarnashelli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"656\" height=\"369\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XK8NM76il4A?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">As always, you need to take this with a grain of salt, but there&#8217;s a close enough look at her embouchure that I can state pretty confidently that she belongs to a Very High Placement <a href=\"https:\/\/wilktone.com\/?p=7337\">embouchure type<\/a>. If you skip ahead to 6:20 into the video you&#8217;ll get the closest look at her embouchure. &nbsp;You can see that the placement is quite high on the lips, with a great deal more upper lip inside the mouthpiece. &nbsp;Because of the predominance of the upper lip, you don&#8217;t really need to see her embouchure in a transparent mouthpiece to tell that it&#8217;s probably one of the two <a href=\"http:\/\/wilktone.com\/?p=12\">downstream<\/a> embouchure types. &nbsp;The best clue, however, is the apparent direction of her <a href=\"http:\/\/wilktone.com\/?p=41\">embouchure motion<\/a>. &nbsp;If you know what to look for, you can easily spot her pushing the mouthpiece and lips together up to ascend and pulling them down to descend. &nbsp;There is only one of the three basic embouchure types that makes this sort of motion, the Very High Placement type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Her embouchure is also interesting because it is an excellent example of an embouchure motion that has an angular deviation in the general up and down motion. &nbsp;Her ascending embouchure motion isn&#8217;t just to push the mouthpiece and lips up, but she also pushes up and slightly to her left to ascend (this is fairly common). &nbsp;She also has an off-center mouthpiece placement. &nbsp;There may be some correlation between these two features, but as I&#8217;ve noted <a href=\"http:\/\/wilktone.com\/?p=967\">before<\/a>, an off-center mouthpiece placement is actually more common than one perfectly centered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">She&#8217;s a very fine player. \u00a0I don&#8217;t believe I had ever heard her play before. \u00a0Tip of the hat to <a href=\"http:\/\/hornmatters.com\/about\/bruce-hembd\/\">Bruce Hembd<\/a> at the <a href=\"http:\/\/hornmatters.com\/\">Horn Matters<\/a> blog for posting a <a href=\"http:\/\/hornmatters.com\/2010\/08\/hornmasters-on-puffing-the-cheeks\/#idc-container\">link<\/a> to this video.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s time for another installment of &#8220;Guess the Embouchure Type.&#8221; &nbsp;Today, I&#8217;m going to try to guess the embouchure type of German hornist Nury Guarnashelli.
